I am going to start this review with a major industry name-drop here, because any song produced by the legendary Jeff Martin of The Tea Party needs to be known as a song worth stopping and listening to, and that song right now is the beautiful, inspiring, and emotionally driven track, Wash Off The World by Hobart, TAS, Australia, Tasmanian artist, Bully Hay.

Just how many great artists come from Australia, exactly? I am being dead serious here, just how many? Because I so often coming across musicians from this beautiful part of the world that have a seemingly innate ability to create songs that have true depth, undeniable talent, and the ability to reach our souls from across the globe, and Bully Hay, with his unique brand of Indie Rock Roots Alternative did just that with his first single Wash Off The World from his upcoming Debut Album Black Dogs and Songbirds.

Wash Off The World is an important song about empowerment and inspiration, two things that I try to promote through my own art, so it’s a message that hits close to home, and a message that I think we all need to have in our lives more and more as things feel more and more uncertain. If I could draw a comparison here, I would say that Wash Off The World would fit well in a playlist that included the likes of Noah Kahan, Jeff Buckley, TALK, John Butler Trio, and The Tea Party.

As a lyric listener myself, I always try to let the words sink in so that I can truly feel what the artist is trying to convey, and after sitting with these words on a few playthroughs I can, with confidence, state that Bully Hay is nothing short of a genuine, soulful, poet, with a natural ability to tug on those heartstrings with raw authenticity. The lyrics in this song are reaching me at the right time, and I bet that they will reach you at the right time as well.

So then, what about the music itself? As stated in the beginning, Jeff Martin had his hands on this, and when one of the most versatile and talented musicians in my lifetime works on something, well, you know its going to be nothing short of stunning. This song is beautifully mixed and mastered and has some of the cleanest guitars I have heard in recent memory. I found myself pondering whether this song’s production was at least a bit inspired by hit song by The Tea Party, Heaven  Coming Down. “And Mr. Martin, The Captain, well done on this one, good sir. You made it shine brightly!” To me, Wash Off The World is a spiritual song. It connects me to my own personal thoughts. It is a gorgeous song that I know I will listen to often because it inspires me to want to work on my own art, and to reconnect with myself through the digital noise of this very loud world. I can’t say how this song will connect with you, but I would ask that you give it a chance and take a listen, because in a world perpetually being driven towards a more synthetic and software generated sound, it is a breath of fresh air to hear something as organic and human sounding as this.
