When a new band releases a powerful single you just never know if they can follow it with another great song. In the land of one-hit-wonders, some of these new music acts disappear into obscurity from one flash of greatness to be unfollowed by another; I believe it’s called the Sophomore Slump. Then there are the ones who respect their craft, and their listeners; these impressive artists who keep creating songs that resonate with our own hearts, and simply put, know their own selves enough to trust in what they have manifested, and for Melbourne, Australia’s own, Collegians, their brand new single called “Killer” leaves no room for debate; this is a band that truly loves what they do, and we should all be taking notice, because the music industry itself surely is.

Collegians Killed

LISTEN TO KILLER HERE!

Killer takes its musical cues from that incredible dark/pop/synth place, a creative space that musicians like Linkin Park, NIN, Bjork, and Bowie have worked in. The track itself is a sexy and devious vision for Collegians, as it weaves itself around the listeners mind like a sinful serpent.
The production value of Killer serves as the bar that has been raised fort any new musicians looking to create waves in the industry; it is nothing short of beautifully made.

Back when Collegians released their hot single “Vaccine”, we all knew that they were a group to pay attention to, and for our support in their efforts we were given their next single “Black Mass”, and now with “Killer” it is a fact that Collegians are not wasting any time on filler, every single they release is blazing it’s way through the radio charts and across the internet itself. Killer very much feels like the band hit their full stride on this one. Vocal chances were taken on this song, and even the delivery of the tempo itself is new to the band. At one point in the song it breaks down into a beautifully soft moment, a powerful bridge where the vocals are reminiscent of the legendary Chester Bennington; no doubt in my mind that this moment is going to go down as one of Collegians most impressive moments.

Although Glenn Patrick’s vocals are the MVP of this shining dark track, it is because of the masterfully crafted and mixed instrumental soundscape that he can confidently sound-off.
Gerry Leigh (Guitar, Vocals), James Leigh (Keyboard, Bass), and Vince Leigh (Drums) have all brought their A-Game on this one. Not one instrument is dwarfed by another, not one drum-hit feels weak, and not one layer placed on this track feels arbitrarily done. It is, in my opinion, the exact track that it intended and needed to be.

Hat’s off to Collegians, once again, for offering up yet another incredible track for all of us hungry listeners to devour!
Play. Turn up volume. Repeat
