Nu Pop is a genre that has been gaining traction heavily in 2023. It is a style of music that drips with authenticity and emotional vulnerability meant to empower the listener to get through their hardest of times by showing them that they are never alone while facing their storms, and in this mission, I think Miami duo, and brothers, the ET Boys has succeeded in their mission to create a meaningful song that sticks.
Tacboy and Sharkeyes, as they are known in the music industry, are clearly on a journey to reach new heights with every single they release, because This Is Us is a shining example of their ability to straddle genres and styles without losing the heart of the song in the process. This Is Us captures that summer-youth-heartbreak vibe the way we saw Machine Gun Kelly, My Chemical Romance, and Boys Night Out do it, and I am sure there is a massive audience just waiting to discover such an infectious single.
Trent Reznor of NIN once talked about how The Fragile was created with a sense of almost falling apart but being held together by a forced intention, or something close to that effect, and I can’t help but feel that this sums up ET Boys new single perfectly as well. It is mixed and mastered well, it is structured as you might expect a song like this would be, but the vocals really capture a sense of emotional falling apart that leaves you feeling as if the artists themselves had to choke back the tears to get through this one.
This Is Us is a real gem of a single. It is a heartfelt song that captures the signature heart of two musicians who clearly use their art as therapy to help them through it all, and I am grateful for any artist of any medium who bravely bears their soul like these two do.
